September 6th 2013. Pick Of The Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

My most dreaded and hated foe, the scourge of our lands known as Winter, has sent ahead as forward charge perhaps the worst offender amongst his wraith's gallery, that helmeted beast known only by initials that fester in the belly of Hell during those months we deem most pleasant, only to rise from the depths once every solar cycle to plague our mirth. I can only be speaking of the NFL. This sentiment comes as shock to none who know me. To those it does, make sure you get your slips in with me before game time this Sunday. Series today include MoMA's Auteurist History of Film and its companion Auteurist History of Film Reprise, and the Museum of the Moving Image's See It Big! The lowdown as folows;

Today's Pick? I gotta go with one of my fave thesps in one of his many iconic turns, or rather in a group of his iconic turns, as before-he-was-Sir Alec Guinness took on the role of 8 (EIGHT!) members of la famille d'Ascoyne marked for murderous revenge in Robert Hamer's KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS, one of the quintessential Ealing Studios comedies. Tonight's screening is accompanied by an introduction from legendary drama critic and Vanity Fair contributing editor John Heilpern, and all this value is had for the price of a cocktail at the Rubin Museum's swank bar area. Be sure to arrive early as space is limited and these things tend to be pretty popular. As popular as the Raiders gettin' 10&1/2 from the Colts, am I right? Book closes Sunday at noon. Enjoy the movie!

For more info on these and all the month's classic screenings click on the interactive calendar on the upper right hand side of the page. And be sure to follow me on Facebook and Twitter! Back tomorrow with more of the goods, til then be safe and sound and make sure the next whoozit is too! DAMN YOU FOOTBALL!!!!
