September 11th 2013. Pick Of The Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

I find it distasteful at best when an industry is made of national mourning in this country, as I'm sure to be constantly reminded of all day today by media both traditional and modern. So I'll simply say this; we all remember where we were and who we lost and were lucky not to lose 12 years ago today. Let's honor them by being grateful for the air in our lungs and the love in our hearts.
In the rep world today's ongoing series include MoMA's Auteurist History of Film and Auteurist History of Film Reprise, and BAM's Marlene Goes West. The full rundown looks like this;
Film Forum
CONTEMPT (1963) Dir; Jean-Luc Godard
MoMA
YOJIMBO (1961) Dir; Akira Kurosawa
THE SEARCHERS (1956) Dir; John Ford
BAM
RANCHO NOTORIOUS (1952) Dir; Fritz Lang
THE SPOLIERS (1942) Dir; Ray Enright
Today's Pick? It would be subversive not to choose John Ford's subversion of the traditional western genre, 1956's THE SEARCHERS, wherein Civil War vet John Wayne's obsessive hunt for his kidnapped niece and the Native American tribe that abducted her ultimately dooms him to wander between the winds for all eternity. Ford was rarely more Fordian that with this VistaVision classic, and MoMA's print promises to be nothing short of stunning. Ride away, indeed.
