October 10th 2012. Pick Of The Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Amongst the delights cinematic on the big screen this fine October day (which is a stretch) you may find King Vidor's American pioneer epic and early Technicolor classic NORTHWEST PASSAGE at MOMA, the little known and rarely screened silent gem THE ANCIENT LAW at BAM with live musical accompaniment by multimedia artist Thomas Koner, and a pair of 70's Bond flicks with Roger Moore also at MOMA. Skip the last two with no regrets, trust me.
My Pick Of The Day is getting a week long revisit courtesy of the the fine folks over at Film Forum. A little known cult film, at least to myself and my circle, whose only exposure has come via the quick coverage provided by Aussie exploitation film doc and Cinegeek valentine NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD, Ted Kotcheff's WAKE IN FRIGHT seemingly concerns the thin veneer separating the supposedly superior urban Australian over his Outback countrymen, and the consequences the removal of said veneer have on that man and his hosts. Nick Cave has anointed this flick the "most terrifying film about Australia" he's ever seen. I repeat; Nick I'm-Auditioning-For-Hells'-Gatekeeper Fucking Cave called this the most terrifying film he's ever seen about his own country. Screens all day. I'll be at the 9:40p show. If I don't see you on the other side it's been an honor, Stockers.
