September 30th 2013. Pick Of The Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

A lean couple of days face the classic film fanatic in NYC this week, until October 2013's repertory screenings, fests and retrospectives begin to kick in this coming weekend. Ongoing series consist solely of Anthology Film Archives' John Zorn Selects. Here be today's cinematic bounty;

Film Forum

Today's Pick? I'm dying to choose the flick that ushered one of Hollywood's greatest stars into the second and perhaps most iconic phase of his career, that of the loner gun-toting vigilante (although here he portrays a highly paid assassin), if for no other reason than to invoke the phrase "motherf***ing Charlie Bronson", but Michael Winner's THE MECHANIC must take a back seat to a more unique, indeed unequivocal screening this day. For you see the lone Three Stooges pic that until recently resided among the morose lot known as lost films was, incredibly, discovered by a private collector of antiquated celluloid within his private collection. That film, an early work of Technicolor printed on nitrate stock (what a coincidence!), was given the full restoration treatment by the Warner Archives, UCLA and the Library of Congress last year. And now the public may see, for the first time in 80 years, the glorious results of these efforts. A Robert Benchley short also screens, along with other interesting recently discovered esoterica from cinema's past. But really, we're in it for the nyuk.

LOST...NOW FOUND screens today at 3pm and 6:45pm at the Film Forum. In a word; whoopwhoopwhoopwhoopwhoop!
