October 14th 2013. Pick Of The Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Una giorno di Columbus molto felice! Day-off shenanigans on the rep circuit include Petey Bogs' initiation of the New Hollywood of the 70's, Catherine Denueve's fighting off of her father's advances (comment bien Francais!), and the cinematic documentation of the construction of one of the Rolling Stones' most indelible works of song. Continuing series include the Film Society's Jean-Luc Godard cuddlery, Film Forum's Jacques Demy retrospective, and MoMA's annual To Save and Project. The lowdown;

Today's Pick? On this day when we celebrate great explorers and the awesome and iconic headwear they sported none other than Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones, whose introductory adventure RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK unspools at Astoria's Museum of the Moving Image, can stand alonside as celebrated (and controversial) a seeker as the one and only Christophoro Colombo. The only difference between these two men of destiny is that Columbus gets credit for discovering something he didn't, while Jones' actual hard work and legitimately-earned booty is relegated to the arenas of legend, gossip, and conspiracy theory. Y'know, within the movie anyway. As John Ford, Tha Shpielz's fave filmaker, proudly extolled through the dialogue of his THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE, "print the legend". As Ford displayed in the same film, show the facts.
