November 11th 2013. Pick Of The Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

A mild day today, if not in terms meteorological then surely descriptive of the rep cinema circuit. The slim bounty to be had includes BAM's first-ever stateside trib to the works of Czech New Wave pioneer Jan Nemec, and MoMA's nearly finished To Save and Project series. The plunder be as follows;
Film Forum
SIDEWALK STORIES (1988) Dir; Charles Lane
THE FRESHMAN (1925) Dirs; Fred C. Newmeyer, Sam Taylor
MoMA
PILLAGED (1967) Dir; Alain Cavalier
THERESE (1986) Dir; Alain Cavalier
BAM
PEARLS OF THE DEEP (1966) Dir; Jan Nemec
DIAMONDS OF THE NIGHT (1964) Dir; Jan Nemec
Today's Pick? On this blustery November day I'm going with Harold Lloyd and the newly restored version of his 1925 classic THE FRESHMAN, streaming its DCP 1's and 0's at the Film Forum until Thursday, and not only because it's the closest walk I have to make for classic cinema today, but because nah it's exactly because of that. Well do I really need to convinve any Cinegeeks anywhere that Harold Lloyd was a master craftsman of the silent era who shaped the future of the art form indelibly? C'mon, we're all adults here. Even though our behavior begs otherwise.
For more info on these and all NYC's classic screenings in November '13 click on the interactive calendar on the upper right hand side of the page. And be sure to follow me on Facebook and Twitter! Back tomorrow with more of tha goods, til then don't take any candy from strangers and behoove others to do likewise. Cheers!
