December 2nd 2013. Pick Of The Day.
New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Hm. This has only happened to me once before. Looks like there's nothing eligible screening today for me to choose as my Pick. The one classic unspooling, Leos Carax's MAUVAIS SANG, snagged that distinction mere days ago, and I don't do the double-dip thing.
So I'll do what I did a little over a year ago when faced with this same paucity of rep screenings and offer this course of action; READ A BOOK, ya bastidz!
My suggestion for this gathering of the Nitrate Stock book club? I haven't read it yet but the brand spankin' new bio of Barbara Stanwyck, subtitled Steel-True, is garnering raves, ties in nicely with this month's exhaustive retrospective at Film Forum, and is about one of my all-time fave movie broads, an exalted appelation in my childhood Bronx nabe. I'm looking forward to cracking this tome myself, but there's no reason you shouldn't get a head start on yours truly. Babs, man. She was the goods.
For a look at the month's classic screenings in NYC click on the interactive calendar on the upper right hand side of the page. And be sure to follow me on Facebook and Twitter! Back tomorrow with the full monthly overview, and December '13 promises to be a memorable one for the intrepid Cinegeek indeed! Luck prevailing we'll be unveiling the inaugural monthly podcast come the new year, and you can also look forward to more guest Picks, interviews, and essays regarding NYC's rep film community and the unspoolings we obsess over! Eighteen months in and I'm just starting to feel like I've got the hang of this whole shebang! Couldn't have done it without you guys!
