January 26th 2014. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

Continuing series today include IFC Center's sadly expiring The Way He Was: Early Redford, Film Forum's baby-stroller-friendly Film Forum Jr., and MoMI's flaunting of its excellent, recently renovated screening space; the ostentatiously titled See It Big!: Musicals. The cinematic wim wam as follows;

IFC Center

ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN (1976) Dir; Alan J. Pakula

Film Forum

THE KING AND I (1956) Dir; Walter Lang

MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (1946) Dir; John Ford

Nitehawk Cinema

THE BREAKFAST CLUB (1985) Dir; John Hughes

Museum of the Moving Image

LOVE ME TONIGHT (1932) Dir; Rouben Mamoulian

GIGI (1958) Dir; Vincente Minnelli

Anthology Film Archives

THERE WAS A FATHER (1942) Dir; Yasujiro Ozu

THE RULES OF THE GAME (1939) Dir; Jean Renior

THE FLOWERS OF ST. FRANCIS (1950) Dir; Roberto Rossellini

Today's Pick? Ya may think it a bitter, arduous task to traverse twixt the boroughs on this biblically unpleasant day, but a single reasonably-priced ticket gains you admission to Astoria's cinematic shrine, as well as both of the films it offers on its beautiful big screen today! So jump on the N train and curse existence for the five block walk to the Museum of the Moving Image for their See It Big!: Musicals series, today offering up Rouben Mamoulian's LOVE ME TONIGHT and Vincent Minnelli's GIGI. Should'ya prove brave enough to attend take the opportunity to explore the entirety of the museum while you're there. Whether you're a casual film fan that'll get a kick seeing the dentrifice Brando employed for his puffy-cheeked perf as Don Corleone, or a fanatic who'll obssess over the original Zoetropes and magic lanterns on display, it's one of the true treasures NYC has to offer. And as the American film industry kinda sorta began here, it's entirely appropos.

Back with a brand new Pick tomorrow, til then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
