July 6th 2014. Pick of the Day.

New York City's premiere resource for classic film screenings in the metropolitan area. Offering reviews, recommendations, venues and a host of links keeping classic film and the silver screens alive.

I think the advent of another July 6th rollin' aboot absolves me from a lengthy intro paragraph once again. So I'll just get to the pertinent info. You may thank me later.

Ongoing series today include Time Regained: Cinema's Present Perfect at IFC Center, See It Big!: Science Fiction (Part Two) at Museum of the Moving Image, Big Screen Epics at BAM Cinématek's Harvey Theater, and the Sir Run Run Shaw trib as part of the 2014 New York Asian Film Fest at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Today's Pick? Although I didn't list it, because most short films, along with the bulk of documentaries and experimental cinema, don't meet the selective criteria of this cinematic retreat for the sophisticate, Truffaut's 1962 ANTOINE & COLETTE completes the Antoine Doinel Cycle unspooling as a series within a series today at IFC Center. For those bold souls entranced by the French Nouvelle Vague master's CV, the meager sum of $30 grants you the sovereign right to plant your ass in one of IFC's plush seats for the entire 5-film run today, the rare opportunity to witness the saga of Truffaut's screen alter ego unfold, from precocious anarchic youth to petulant stunted adolescent, in one sitting. All the reward of witnessing youth's journey to fractured adulthood wthout the criminal charges attached? What else need I say to sell this puppy?

François Truffat's Antoine Doinel Cycle, comprised of THE 400 BLOWS, ANTOINE & COLETTE, STOLEN KISSES, BED AND BOARD, and LOVE ON THE RUN, is offered today as a marathon screening as part of IFC Center's Time Regained: Cinema's Present Perfect. If you were French you'd know what to do with that $30 dollars. But you're American. So buy a ticket.

P. S. Even though we're coming into the summer months and therefore not often as mindful of the displaced, some of our fellow NY'ers are yet to be made whole since Hurricane Sandy hit nearly two years ago. Check in with the good folks at Occupy Sandy to see if you can't still volunteer/donate to our neighbors in need. Be a mensch.
