#RepCircuitSoBlackAndWhite
Okay, bad joke, and the actual controversy is a serious one. I just couldn't resist. We'll talk about the legit problems systemic and endemic in a later post. For now, however, let's pursue our ongoing passion for antiquated celluloid. Ongoing series this day include the Charlotte Rampling & Christopher Lee tribs at IFC Center, Modern Matinees: A Pioneer Cowboy and All That Jack (Cole) at MoMA, and the legroom-generous Cabaret Cinema at the Rubin Museum of Art. The halide hysteria be thus;
IFC Center
THE VERDICT (1982) Dir; Sidney Lumet
TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA (1970) Dir; Peter Sasdy
THE SHINING (1980) Dir; Stanley Kubrick
MoMA
Modern Matinees: A Pioneer Cowboy
HELL'S HINGES (1916) Dir; William S. Hart
DESIGNING WOMAN (1957) Dir; Vincente Minnelli
LES GIRLS (1957) Dir; George Cukor
Rubin Museum of Art
THE THIRD MAN (1950) Dir; Carol Reed
Today's Pick? Like there's any contest?
The greatest movie ever made, Carol Reed's THE THIRD MAN, screens at one of my all-time fave venues, the Rubin Museum of Art, as part of their eternally swank Cabaret Cinema series. Much as it pains me to snub such greats as Christopher Lee and Lauren Bacall, Harry Lime wins the day. It's like the fella said.

For reviews of contemporary cinema and my streaming habits (keep it clean!) check out my Letterboxd page. And be sure to follow me on both Facebook, where I provide further info and esoterica on the rep film circuit and star birthdays, and Twitter, where I provide a daily feed for the day's screenings and other blathery. Back soon with new Picks 'n perks, til then safe, sound, make sure the next knucklehead is too!
P. S. Winter's icy grip seems to have finally taken hold of our fair city, and believe it or not some of our fellow NY'ers have still yet to be made whole in the wake of the 2012 storm. Should you be feeling charitable please visit the folks at OccupySandy.net, follow their hammer-in-hand efforts to restore people's lives, and donate/volunteer if you have the inclination and availability. Be a collective mensch, Stockahz!
