STOCKAHZ! A hale and hearty m'wah to all of you who've survived the first head of the calendar's annual iteration of the Orthrus, that cold, dark, insidious beast known as January. It's twin set of fangs, the equally mean and miserable February, growls still, but once quelled no longer blocks us from exhibition baseball, St. Patrick's Day and the absolute catastrophe bearing the monicker BATMAN V SUPERMAN. Regardless of all other doings in the world outside the rep film circuit, us Cinegeeks have much to look forward to over this coming Leap Month. Yes!

January 29th 2016. Pick of the Day.

Oh, my old, weathered, wizened, worrisome foe who goes by the none too popular monicker of January. How fleet your reign has proved this year. How unwelcome your constant 31 day sense of dread remains. How glad we will all collectively be whence your annual interment, however temporary, commences. It also means that your despicable cousin, otherwise referred to as the NFL, also soonly meets its deserving, if also temporary end. Spring and Summer '16 loom just around the bend, we have merely to survive you and your successor, the perhaps even more scabrous February, although it boasts the mitigating circumstance of having only 28 days. Except this year it gets the extra Leap Year 24 hours. So my guard rests not. But my ebullience regarding the rep circuit's kinetic activity waxes.

#RepCircuitSoBlackAndWhite

Okay, bad joke, and the actual controversy is a serious one. I just couldn't resist. We'll talk about the legit problems systemic and endemic in a later post. For now, however, let's pursue our ongoing passion for antiquated celluloid. Ongoing series this day include the Charlotte Rampling & Christopher Lee tribs at IFC Center, Modern Matinees: A Pioneer Cowboy and All That Jack (Cole) at MoMA, and the legroom-generous Cabaret Cinema at the Rubin Museum of Art. The halide hysteria be thus;

New and continuing series this completely bone-chilling day include the closure of Film Forum's wonderful celebration of the Bard on film, Stratford-On-Houston, and two programs at MoMA; the onging Modern Matinees: A Pioneer Cowboy and the newly beginning All That Jack (Cole). Continuing series this day include the Charlotte Rampling and Christopher Lee tribs at IFC Center, the Bard- beatifying Stratford-On-Houston at Film Forum, and Modern Matinees: Fashionably Late and Bert Williams Lime Kiln Club Field Day Program, both at MoMA. The emulsified ebullience be thus;

January 15th 2016. Farewell Pick of the Day.

New and continuing series this day include the tribs to living legend Charlotte Rampling and sadly departed legend Christopher Lee at IFC Center, the Shakes-lovin' Stratford-On-Houston at Film Forum, Modern Matinees: A Pioneer Cowboy at MoMA, and the impossibly cool Cabaret Cinema at the Rubin Museum. And yes, to the reception of much sorrow, the posthumous trib to a recently passed titan, Watch That Man: David Bowie, Movie Star, at the Walter Reade Theater. The Magick Lanternry be thus;
