Autumn's crisp grip creeping up yer pants leg a little too soon for your tastes? I hear ya Stockahz. So let's see which venues offer not merely respite from weather confusing but choice screenings to nestle in with. Intriguing offerings today include Dennis Hopper's directorial debut (which the cast and crew miraculously survived), Howard Hawks' first "talkie", and a restored batch of shorts featuring female stars of the silent era in which they not only performed their own stunts but produced and directed as well. Take that, Buster!

World cinema dominates the rep circuit today as we the Cinegeek are served a Kurosawa police procedural potboiler, the great Mario Bava's solo directorial debut, and what many consider to be Yasujiro Ozu's finest two-plus hours.

What we got here today my fellow Cinegeek is the first film from French action director Luc Besson, the last great film from the revered Alfred Hitchcock, and the most celebrated film from Japanese auteur Yasujiro Ozu.

It's 1945 all over again as the French stand triumphant today over the Japanese and Italians. I mean on NYC's rep film circuit. Too soon?

Like French filmmakers? I hope you do Stockahz 'cause otherwise ya got squat to choose from on the rep film circuit today. Cinematic swag to be had this October Tuesday includes Omar Sharif's first big step onto the world cinema stage and Godard's initial shot fired in the Nouvelle Vague.

Una giorno di Columbus molto felice! Day-off shenanigans on the rep circuit include Petey Bogs' initiation of the New Hollywood of the 70's, Catherine Denueve's fighting off of her father's advances (comment bien Francais!), and the cinematic documentation of the construction of one of the Rolling Stones' most indelible works of song.

Rep cinema treats this day include John Hurt's unfortunate bout of upset stomach, Scheherazade's reinvention at the hands of Pasolini, and Jean-Luc Godard's ruining of two hours of your life.

Chills aplenty come early this month of Halloween in the form of a severed hand terrorizing Peter Lorre's murderer, axe-wielding Jack Nicholson's terrorizing of his trapped family in the Overlook hotel, and Jean-Luc Godard's terrorizing of cinema itself. Tres mauvais.
