September 28th 2013. Pick Of The Day.

Lots to keep the movie mad in our metropolis occupied today. Even a movie called METROPOLIS. Today we might indulge in Fritz Lang's silent SciFi masterpiece, Akira Kurosawa's epic treatise on the noble warrior, and Steve McQueen's still iconic '68 Mustang car chase.

September 27th 2013. Pick Of The Day.

Choice offerings this day include Howard Hawks's first western, Elio Petri's defining work of the cinema of paranoia, and the perfect screen iteration of Hal Foster's immortal comic strip knight.

Excruciatingly few choices for the film fanatic this brisk (TOO brisk if ya ask me) third day of Autumn, yet what's on display is masterpiece material indeed. No ongoing series, but the auteur title fight today features a malevolent Brit mastermind in one corner facing off against an equally potent cinematic cerebellum from The Bronx. Here's the short but sweet;

THE KILLING (1956) Dir; Stanley Kubrick

NORTHERN LIGHTS (1978) Dirs; John Hanson & Rob Nilsson

BAM Cinematek

REAR WINDOW (1954) Dir; Alfred Hitchcock

September 23rd 2013. Pick Of The Day.

As is usually the case the month's final week finds the classic film fan's choices slimming considerably. Choices today include Terry Gilliam's (co-) directorial debut, Stanley Kubrick's first critical and commercial success, and a couple of other flicks I know precious little about. You get honesty at this website. Today's only ongoing series is Anthology Film Archives' Middle Ages on Film. Here's the meager rundown;
