Today the classic screening circuit offers Orson Welles' last directorial masterpiece, Stanley Kramer's iconic work of race relation social commentary, and Sight & Sound magazine's current crown-bearer as best film all-time. Which begs deposing. That's just me.
Ongoing series include MoMA's Auteurist History of Film Reprise and Anthology Film Archives' John Zorn Selects. The select list as follows;

Cinegeeks may forgive November's encroachment upon September's traditional weather this day to attend James Mason's excursion into Jules Verne territory, Gene Hackman's incursion into people's privacy, and Terry Gilliam's transcursion through the very fabric of space and time! See what I did there?
Ongoing series today include MoMA's Auteurist History of Film Reprise, Moving Image's Complete Howard Hawks, and Anthology Film Archives' John Zorn Selects. The rundown as follows;

It is with great and effusive glee that I recommend, after so mild a summer 2013, that you duck out of the heat and humidity and catch a classic screening today if only to bask in the modern 21st century miracle known as air conditioning. Mid-80's with a good chance of rain! Woo hoo! Today's ongoing series include MoMA's Auteurist History of Film and Auteurist History of Film Reprise, BAM's Marlene Goes West, and Anthology Film Archives' John Zorn Selects. The full shindig as follows;

I find it distasteful at best when an industry is made of national mourning in this country, as I'm sure to be constantly reminded of all day today by media both traditional and modern. So I'll simply say this; we all remember where we were and who we lost and were lucky not to lose 12 years ago today. Let's honor them by being grateful for the air in our lungs and the love in our hearts.

It's a good thing our movie-mad metropolis has stepped up its classic film screening activities of late, if for no other reason than this; I gotta wait a whole damn week to see episode 6 of BREAKING BAD's final season. And they left me HAAAAAAANGING last night!
Today's rep series include MoMA's Auteurist History of Film Reprise and BAM's Marlene Goes West. The whole shebang as follows;

So what if the Yankees are the first team to lose three games in a row while simultaneously scoring 8 or more runs in each of those games? So what if the Red Sawks sit comfortably atop the AL East? So what if there's an 11 game gap between our struggle and Boston's success. Here's today's real takeaway from this mess;
None of this nonsense has anything to do with the classic film screenings happening about our movie-mad metropolis this day.
